Canadian, Australian eVestment Users Looking Close to Home

Institutional investors and consultants from Canada and Australia reviewing investment strategies on eVestment showed more home-country bias than users from other regions of the world in June 2018, according to the latest eVestment Advantage Viewership Report covering the month.

Among Canadian users in June, 14 of the top viewed strategies were Canada focused. While less pronounced than among Canadian users, six of the top strategies viewed by Australian users were Australia-focused.

Changes in viewership of asset management firms, their products and geographic focuses can be driven by changing investor demand; positive or negative company news; company marketing initiatives; global or local economic or political events; or other factors. Reviewing this data on its own tells a high-level story of what investors and consultants were interested in during the past month. And comparing this data to world and corporate events can offer a unique insight into institutional investors’ concern about these events.

A few other interesting points from the new report include:

  • Japan-based investors and consultants showed significant turnover in their top viewed products, as 90% of products in June’s top viewed list were new compared to last month. M&G Investment Management Ltd: M&G Alpha Opportunities Fund and BlackRock: Fixed Income Global Opportunities (FIGO) (Unconstrained Non-US Domiciled) were the only products to show up in both May’s and June’s lists.
  • Only one hedge fund, Silver Rock Financial LP: Silver Rock Opportunistic Credit Fund LP, showed up in the top reviewed products list across any of the eight countries/regions analyzed in the report. This event driven – distressed fund was the most viewed product by institutional investors and consultants located in Asia ex-Japan.
  • US-based investors and consultants displayed an increased interest in developed markets outside the US and Canada. Six US-focused equity products from last month are no longer in the top 20 list, while five new EAFE-focused equity products have showed up: Causeway Capital Management LLC: Causeway International Value Equity, Silchester International Investors LLP: International Value Equity, Artisan Partners Limited Partnership: Artisan Non-U.S. Growth, Walter Scott & Partners Limited: EAFE Strategy, and Sanderson Asset Management LLP: Sanderson International Value Equity.
