Equity products continue to be the most reviewed asset class among investors and consultants using eVestment, according to the February 2018 eVestment Advantage Viewership data. United Kingdom-based investors and consultants and those located in Europe ex-UK however, showed relatively more interest in other asset classes: roughly a quarter of UK’s top reviewed list includes balanced/multi-asset products and close to a quarter of Europe ex-UK’s includes fixed income and hedge fund strategies.
Changes in viewership of asset management firms, their products and geographic focuses can be driven by changing investor demand; positive or negative company news; company marketing initiatives; global or local economic or political events; or other factors. Reviewing this data on its own tells a high-level story of what investors and consultants were interested in during the past month. And comparing this data to world and corporate events can offer a unique insight into institutional investors’ concern about these events.
Some interesting points from the latest data include:
- After a month without any fixed income universes in the global top 20 most reviewed universes, there were two fixed income entrants on the global universes list in February: US Passive Short Duration Fixed Income and US Passive Core Fixed Income. Another universe back in the top rankings after a month’s hiatus is Liquid Real Assets.
- There were eight new products in the global top reviewed list, but All Cap and Large Cap equity strategies once again represented all but two products at the top. One new and different entrant was a US Small-Mid Cap Growth Equity strategy: Jackson Square Partners, LLC: Smid-Cap Growth – Focus.
- The most turnover in the top reviewed (average per product) universe list came from APAC investors and consultants. Only four universes from last month were included in February: EAFE Small Cap Core Equity, EAFE Small Cap Value Equity, Global Emerging Mkts All Cap Growth Equity, and Global All Cap Growth Equity.
- The month-over-month absolute change in average reviews per product for several universes pushed these universes into first place within their respective regional lists in February. Multi-Strategy Multi-Markets moved to the top in February for consultants and institutional investors located in Africa/Middle East, for those located in APAC it was US Small Cap Growth Equity, and for Europe ex-UK it was US Municipal Fixed Income – Interm Duration.
The Advantage investment viewership data is generated through the eVestment Advantage solution and based on tracking daily eVestment user reviews of investment universes and products on eVestment. The report looks at Global, United States, United Kingdom, Europe ex-U.K., Asia-Pacific, Canada and Africa-Middle East profile viewership activity among the institutional investors and consultants who use eVestment. The report looks at the most viewed products and universes overall for the past month and the universes and products that saw the most month-over-month growth in views on the site.
