Reflecting increased interest in eVestment data about the Asia-Pacific region, eVestment has broken out its monthly Advantage viewership rankings for APAC into separate lists highlighting the most viewed universes and products by investors and consultants in Japan, Asia ex-Japan and Australia.
The new rankings highlight interesting similarities and differences between the investment products and universes drawing the most interest on eVestment globally and among the three new areas highlighted. For instance, equity strategies dominated the overall top 20 list of most-viewed products by investors and consultants globally and in Australia (the Australia most-viewed list had only one fixed-income product on it – PM Capital Ltd’s PM Capital Enhanced Yield Fund).
However, one-third of the most popular products viewed by investors and consultants in Japan were fixed-income products, with the remainder being equity products. On the Asia ex-Japan list, a hedge fund, AQR Capital Management’s Managed Futures Strategy, took the top spot and both fixed-income and balanced/multi-asset products made healthy showings on the list.
Changes in viewership of asset management firms, their products and geographic focuses can be driven by changing investor demand; positive or negative company news; company marketing initiatives; global or local economic or political events; or other factors. Reviewing this data on its own tells a high-level story of what investors and consultants were interested in during the past month. And comparing this data to world and corporate events can offer a unique insight into institutional investors’ concern about these events.
Globally, investors and consultants seem to be mixing up the products and universes they are reviewing on eVestment. For instance:
- Almost two-thirds of the products in the global top 20 list were new to the list compared to last month, including three new strategies within the top five: Aberdeen Asset Management (Aberdeen Standard Investments): Emerging Markets Equity; WCM Investment Management: Focused Growth International; and Walter Scott & Partners Limited: Global Strategy. And,
- There were eight new universes in the top 20 universe list by average reviews per product, including three Canada-focused: Canadian All Cap Value Equity, Canadian Large Cap Value Equity, and Canadian Mortgage Fixed Income (the top universe by month-over-month change in average reviews per product was also Canadian Mortgage Fixed Income).
The Advantage investment viewership data is generated through the eVestment Advantage solution and based on tracking daily eVestment user reviews of investment universes and products on eVestment. The report looks at Global, United States, United Kingdom, Europe ex-U.K., Japan, Asia ex-Japan, Australia and Canada profile viewership activity among the institutional investors and consultants who use eVestment. The report looks at the most viewed products and universes overall for the past month and the universes and products that saw the most month-over-month growth in views on the site.
