Former Securities and Exchange Commission chairman Mary Schapiro has joined financial consulting firm Promontory Financial Group.
Washington D.C.-based Promontory said in a statement released Tuesday that as a managing director and chairman of its governance and markets practice, Schapiro will work with clients to "ensure that the quality of corporate governance is commensurate with the demands of running modern public companies."
One of the longest-serving SEC chairman, Schapiro stepped down from the post in December after nearly four years. During her tenure as SEC chairman, Schapiro brought a record number of enforcement actions and executed a restructuring program to improve protection for investors.
Promontory specializes in solving regulatory, risk, compliance and governance issues for investment firms.
