The non-profit organization 100 Women in Hedge Funds will honor former Steinhardt Management Company chief investment officer Karen Cook at its annual New York gala later this year.
100WHF announced in a statement Monday that Cook, who retired as chief investment officer of Steinhardt in 2008, will be recognized with the organization’s 2013 U.S. Industry Leadership Award on November 13 for her "skill, knowledge, insight and dedication" to the hedge fund industry.
Everett Cook, Cook’s husband and the co-founder of Pouschine Cook Capital Management will accept the award on his wife’s behalf.
Each year, 100WHF “honors a woman whose professional talent, business ethic, and passion for investing help define and advance the Alternatives industry's standards of excellence.” Past awardees include Avenue Capital’s Sonia Gardner and D.E Shaw’s Anne Dinning.
100WHF was formed in 2001 to organize various activities throughout the year that fit its three-pronged philanthropic mission: mentoring, women’s and family health, and education. It has since raised nearly $30 million for various charities.
