An Arizona man has been sentenced to six years in jail for fraud and tax invasion for portraying himself as a hedge fund manager to investors.
Business Journal reported that Scott Atkins will also pay $1.73 million in restitution to victims and owes nearly $271,000 to the Internal Revenue Service. He pleaded guilty to the charges in April.
Atkins allegedly defrauded more than 50 investors of $1.4 million after falsely presenting himself as a hedge fund manager and at times, an attorney.
Atkins will also serve three years of probation after his release from prison.
