Singapore-based investment management firm Lotus Peak Capital is planning to launch a fund of hedge funds next month.
Bloomberg reported that the new fund, which will start trading on February 3 with about $15 million in initial capital, will invest in 10 Japan-focused managers across various strategies.
The new fund will mostly invest in long/short equity funds that bet on rising and falling prices. Lotus Peak managing partner Stephane Pizzo explained that the new fund was launched because “Japan is one of the best opportunities in Asia and even globally.” Hedge funds that invested in the region were the world’s best performers in 2013.
Formed in 2009, Lotus Peak’s investors mainly consist of institutional investors based in the U.S. and Europe.
