In a male-dominated industry, Financial News is giving several female hedge fund managers recognition for their work through its 2014 Awards for Excellence in Institutional Hedge Fund Management.
Financial News announced Monday that BlueCrest Capital Management’s Leda Braga, GLG Partners’ Galia Velimukhametova and Kristen Eshak Weldon from Blackstone are some of the women who have been nominated for the news outlet’s “Most Influential Woman in the European Hedge Fund Industry” category.
The winners will be announced at Financial News’ awards ceremony in London on May 7.
A report from Rothstein Kass earlier in this revealed that women-owned or managed firms historically performed ahead of the industry, and was also leading for the year-to-date through September 2012. Rothstein Kass director Meredith Jones attributed the gender’s success in the industry to studies that show “women investors to be more risk adverse, and therefore potentially better able to escape market downturns and volatility.”
