More than 1,000 hedge fund and financial professionals attended Hedge Funds Care/Help for Children’s 16th annual “Open Your Heart to the Children Benefit” last Thursday, showcasing the philanthropy and generosity of the industry.
Regarded as one of the most prominent fundraising galas in the hedge fund industry, the evening’s attendees were entertained by a live band—the first ever for the event—and a silent auction was set up that ultimately raised nearly $2 million that will fund organizations that prevent and treat child abuse.
Bruce Richards, the managing partner and CEO of global credit market focused hedge fund firm Marathon Asset Management, was presented the event’s “Award for Caring” for his commitment to philanthropy over the years, which included his support of HFC, Safe at Home, Earth Day Network and the R Baby Foundation.
Richards, who shared the award with his family, told eVestment that he was honored to receive the award, and backs HFC for its efforts putting an event together “where the hedge fund community can get together and give back to the [broader] community.”
