Pleaid Investment Advisors, the Hong Kong-based hedge fund that will launch later this year by a pair of former Soros Fund Management employees, has hired its chief financial officer.
Reuters reported that Vien Chiu, an executive director at the prime brokerage unit of Goldman Sachs, will join Hong Kong-based Pleaid as the firm prepares to launch in the third quarter of 2014. Chiu left Goldman earlier this month.
Pleaid, co-founded by Soros Asia specialists Kenneth Lee and Michael Yoshino, is expected to launch a long/short equities hedge fund with a focus on China and Japan with between $150 million to $200 million in capital. Lee and Yoshino, as well as HS Group, a Hong Kong-based firm launched last year to provide seed capital and strategic backing for hedge funds in Asia, will provide seed capital for the fund.
Lee and Yoshino most recently worked at Soros Fund Management as its Asia specialists. The pair also previously worked together at New York-based hedge fund firm Tiger Asia Management and private equity firm TPG Capital.
