Hedge fund manager and philanthropist Michael Hintze has made a generous donation to London’s Natural History Museum.
The museum announced on its website Thursday that it received £5 million ($6.9 million) from Hintze, the founder and CEO of London-based CQS, through the Hintze Family Charitable Foundation. It is the largest single donation the museum has received.
The museum’s main hall will also be renamed Hintze Hall in recognition of the donation. Museum director Michael Dixon said the money “will be used to fund ambitious plans for the future of the galleries, and to help fund the Museum's pioneering scientific research.”
Formed in 1999, CQS is one of the United Kingdom's wealthiest fund managers. The firm currently has about $12 billion in assets under management. Hintze Family Charitable Foundation has provided funsding to over 150 charities since its inception in 2005.
