We rank eVestment’s 300+ primary universes using net flows, AUM, profile views and screening data to determine which universes consultants and institutional investors in different parts of the world cared about most heading into Q4 2019.
Global All Cap Core Equity was the most frequently occurring universe within the regional lists, found among the top five in Africa/Middle East, Asia ex-Japan, Australia, Canada, Europe ex-U.K., Japan and the United Kingdom; Global Large Cap Core was a close second, found in all aforementioned regions except the United Kingdom. U.S. High Yield Fixed income showed up in three regions and was the most frequently occurring fixed income universe. Only one universe outside of active management, Global Passive Equity, was within the top five and in just one region, Europe ex-U.K.
As a whole, only nine of the 23 unique universes across the regional lists showed up more than once. Domestically-dedicated universes showed up in Australia, Canada and the United States, with investors and consultants in the U.S. exhibiting home focus throughout.

The universe rankings were based on the criteria below and used the preceding full-year timeframe (Q4’18 through Q3’18) in order to determine the final lists for Q4 2019. We summed the four rankings and selected the top five universes for each region.
- Absolute value of total net flows in primary universes from regionally domiciled accounts (the larger the absolute net flows, the higher the rank)
- Average quarterly total AUM in primary universes from regionally domiciled accounts (the larger the average AUM, the higher the rank)
- Regionally-based consultant and institutional investor profile views of products in primary universes (the more views, the higher the rank)
- Regionally-based consultant and institutional investor screens of primary universes (the more screens, the higher the rank)
