There are currently over 23,000 strategy listings within the eVestment platform. During Q2 2020, a total of 461 strategies were added to the database across 254 separate investment management firms headquartered across 24 different countries.
Equities saw the largest number of additions (222) followed by fixed income with 101 strategies added. At a regional level, we saw that China and SEA strategies were being added at a considerable rate. The table below represents a breakout of the strategies, by asset class, added during Q2 2020.
Within the equity space, a total of 64 globally-focused equity strategies were added which was the largest proportion of equity strategies in terms of the geographic focus of the strategies (followed by U.S. equities: 54; China: 14; ACWI Ex-US: 13; while the balance was other regional focused equity strategies).
Within fixed income, U.S.-focused strategies accounted for the largest increase (27), followed by more diversified global fixed income strategies (24) and global emerging markets fixed income (15).
It is important to distinguish between ‘date added’ and ‘inception date’ of the strategies added during Q2 2020. Many of these strategies were launched in the past and not just during Q2 2020. Only 26 of the 461 strategies were ‘launched’ and had inception dates in Q2 2020. There are various reasons why a manager may choose to wait until they ‘add’ a strategy to a database, perhaps waiting until they reach a certain milestone such as the 3-year track record.
