Ranger has been submitting data on behalf of their clients to the eVestment database for many years. Bill Poteet, Director of Marketing, says, “Most of the major consultant relationships we have rely heavily on eVestment. It is a must to get our strategies into the eVestment database.” Recently, however, there was a need for tools that would allow the firm to more broadly market their clients’ offerings across many different consultant and third-party databases while alleviating the data-entry burden placed on the investor relations team. Additionally, since joining the firm, Poteet had noted the marketing materials produced using tools from one of eVestment’s competitors were very “orthodox” or “one-dimensional” and needed improvement. He was interested in marketing intelligence that would allow Ranger to compare products against competitors in order to draw out key differentiators and present them in a more professional way. Ranger chose eVestment Omni as well as the Spectrum Analytics solutions to meet these needs.
When asked why the firm chose eVestment, Poteet responded, “eVestment just looked more professional and was more sophisticated. In order to compete, we have to be at least as good as our competitors. Most of our competitors as well as our clients rely on eVestment more than any other provider. It just made sense for us.” Poteet also appreciated the level of client feedback that goes into creating eVestment products. “eVestment is constantly improving its solutions. It is very obvious when you compare eVestment’s capabilities to those of its competitors. eVestment listens to what the client needs which creates a very dynamic relationship. For example, just last year active share was added, which has become a popular metric recently.”
Ranger populates nine strategies across 16 different databases – a very labor- and time-intensive task. “Before eVestment, meeting database deadlines on behalf of our clients seemed nearly impossible. Today eVestment’s Omni has helped tremendously with scaling our work burden so we can focus on other important tasks,” says Poteet. Ranger is also pleased with eVestment Analytics, which it uses to create marketing materials. “The fact that eVestment offers one source to present all the details on our strategies for our reporting and marketing needs is also a great value-add,” says Poteet.
Poteet recalls the helpful support staff he has worked alongside since signing on with eVestment. “We had weekly calls to go over everything and streamline our processes to get up and running. On an ongoing basis, as the product has improved, the team has proactively reached out to us to explain feature enhancements. If we have a problem or question, we know we can call the service desk and usually get it worked out within a few minutes,” he says.

When asked about recommending eVestment to his peers, Poteet says, “In order to remain focused on providing best-in-class services to our managers and clients, we need access to the best tools.
