Winslow Asset Management is a boutique asset management firm located in Cleveland, Ohio. Winslow manages about $600M in assets from high-net worth and institutional investor clients. The firm uses eVestment Omni Source to assist in their third-party and consultant database population efforts.

“Our best distribution channel for larger mandates is certainly through consultants,” said Timothy Goldberg, Vice President, Institutional Sales and Client Service. “We reached a saturation point where we were subscribed to about 13 different databases. These consultant databases are a vital part of our core asset growth.”

A Need to Streamline Data Population

Goldberg said because his firm only has eight employees total, it was taking up a lot of valuable time for him to be tasked with inputting their firm’s data to so many databases each quarter. “Our firm needed to find a solution that worked for us,” he said. “Our goal was to find a way to condense or streamline the database population and work smarter, not harder.”

“We knew eVestment was the blue ribbon consultant database itself, and then we learned eVestment also had the Omni service to assist with database population. We all know how important it is to have certain databases be completed on time each quarter. We needed a more efficient process to complete this task.”

Significant Time Savings

“All of our employees have to wear a lot of hats in a small firm like ours,” Goldberg said. “We used to spend most of one week each quarter – basically a full month out of the year – getting all of our assets and accounts data ready along with our portfolio characteristics and inputting to all the databases. Now we are able to use Omni Source and check in a couple times during that week after the uploads are in and verify the accuracy of the data.”

Goldberg said he was able to open up 2-3 days in a week that otherwise were devoted to data entry or would eventually have been spent training someone else to do it. “Using Omni has provided an avenue for concentrating on revenue generating activities and other executive tasks that were going on in the office. This result was the motivating force behind choosing Omni Source in the first place.”

Terrific Client Service

“During our initial set-up, I went through about 2-3 tutorials or conference calls with someone from the Omni Source team,” said Goldberg. “Basically, they walked me through exactly how the data should look, and they helped me tailor it to my firm, the products we use and how our accounts are set up just to make it easier for me to have a blueprint to work forward.”

Goldberg said that while Winslow has only been an Omni client since last year, he has been very pleased with the Omni Source team so far.

“The turnaround time and the attention from the Omni support team has been terrific,” he said. “Every email and phone call is answered within that business day or sooner.”
