Harvest Global Investments (“HGI”) was established in Hong Kong in 2008 as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Harvest Fund Management Co., Ltd. Since its founding in 1999, Harvest Fund Management has grown to employ more than 200 investment professionals globally. Harvest is one of the largest Chinese institutional asset managers by AUM, and subscribes to eVestment Omni to help market their funds to the global institutional investment network.
Challenges Prior to Omni
“We didn’t have the reach I wanted to have as an international shop with proper global distribution,” said Ashley Dale, Chief Business Development Officer and Chief Marketing Officer for HGI.
“I am restricted in terms of scale. We don’t have a large team writing RFPs, or looking after databases for all the consultants. An outsourced solution like eVestment Omni was without a doubt the best one we could find.”
Ashley said he was familiar with eVestment from his roles at prior companies.
“eVestment is highly reputable and is an excellent, independent platform. I was shocked when I arrived at Harvest and found out we didn’t have any relationship with eVestment. One, it’s important to populate the eVestment database itself, but with Omni we can populate the others as well, which made perfect sense.”
Joyce Lui is the Vice President of Marketing Communications for HGI, and has been closely involved in the implementation of the Omni service.
“We had been manually inputting fund information onto the eVestment database and had been only updating the minimum data such as the latest AUM instead of being more holistic. Since we engaged with the Omni team, we found out that there’s a lot more information we should add that would be useful. Hopefully, we will see what further information we can add to fully utilize the eVestment Omni service to reach out to our clients.”
Impact of Implementing Omni
Joyce continued, “I can say with confidence that using eVestment Omni is going to make our processes going forward smoother than they were before. When we were doing our internal mapping, and seeing where we needed to extract the information, we now know it’s correct and it takes the human error risk out of the picture.”
“Timeliness is other key factor, because instead of going to each database we would want to update, we just have to upload the file once. That definitely cuts down on the hours needed for database input, and reduce errors,” she said.
Ashley said that partnering with eVestment was “incredibly important” and that it helped them to distribute their message broadly.
“Obviously, there is a certain amount we can do through media and branding. eVestment is another channel for us to get our message out there. I know eVestment is so important for institutions globally and certainly for consultants. By engaging with eVestment, our potential clients are able to get a better understanding of what we are about.”
